The value of knowing your affiliate manager
I value my affiliate managers, and I communicate with quite a few of them. In many cases they are the lifeline you need, and I wanted to give an example:
Recently one of my biggest companies had a technical issue where several weeks of sales were not being tracked and recorded. I was not getting credit, even behind the scenes. After noticing this obvious downturn I started looking.
My traffic was up, and my sites were pounding their site with targeted traffic, but no sales and I know from years of experience that something was wrong.
I contacted my affiliate manager, and he informed me of the issue, and the unfortunate reality that the sales were lost. I immediately pleaded my case. With months of continuous sales at a certain level, he agreed that I was shortchanged by the server failure.
I will not bore you with all the details of how the failure went down. All I want to convey here is that my great relationship with that affiliate manager meant all the difference. He has agreed to average my last 3 months of sales, and just pay me an amount based on the average.
That is why I stress with all new affiliates to have communication with their affiliate managers all the time. Work with them, and they will work with you. In this case, just knowing my AM means that I will still get paid, even though none of us can really know how many sales were lost.
In many cases, affiliates get into this kind of situation and never know what the benefits of a good relationship can add up to.
Know your affiliate manager. Stay in contact and establish a mutual respect. It can pay off for you!
